What Is IPL Photorejuvenation?
IPL Photorejuvenation is a new and highly effective technology that repairs skin damage on the face, neck, chest, arms and hands. Often referred to as a Photo Facial, this non-invasive technique uses Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) that penetrates the skin layers to correct problem areas. IPL’s full spectrum light is delivered through a handpiece to target and “heat up” pigment. The light energy is absorbed by the pigment causing those cells to break up and be destroyed.
How does it work on brown, sun or liver spots?
When the pigment targeted by the IPL machine are brown spots, sun spots and other age spots, they become darker at first. After about 7 to 10 days, these rise to the skin surface and flake off. The IPL machine sees sun damage that may not yet be visible and brings it to the surface. For a week or so, you might look worse before looking much better. IPL works similarly on rosacea, acne and acne scars.
How long does a treatment take?
Depending on area treated, anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes. A facial, for example, takes about 30 minutes.
How does it work on broken capillaries on the face?
When the pigment targeted by the IPL is a capillary, or small vein, the IPL machine heats the veins and coagulates the small amount of blood in them. They may become more red or gray for a few days, then fade from view in 7 to 10 days.
Does the treatment hurt?
Some say it feels like a rubber band snap or a little sting. The IPL hand piece has a cooling device that helps soothe any discomfort. Most people do not find the procedure uncomfortable. For sensitive areas, a numbing product may be applied before treatment. Try a treatment first, as you may find numbing unnecessary.
How many treatments will it take?
On average, it will take 3 treatments (spaced about 4 weeks apart) to effectively treat the spots (hyper-pigmentation) and small veins. Periodic maintenance treatments are recommended once or twice a year. (Save 20% when you prepay for a series of 3)
After treatment, what should I do?
IPL will remove the sun-caused skin problems you already have, but after treatment, careless exposure to the sun will cause new spots to appear. Use a sunblock of SPF30 daily and cover the treated area with protective clothing.
How much does a treatment cost?
